I’m glad you finally made it here. I’m Brenda, owner, founder, and lead creative problem solver of Excel Your Business. And I’m looking forward to getting to know you.
After spending 30 years in the corporate world, I decided I wanted to be my own boss. Not just because I wanted to shed all the “other duties as assigned,” and actually work on projects that truly engaged me, but because I wanted to earn what I was worth based on my skills and talents, not based on my title.
And because, well, why not?
It also helped that God provided more than a little divine intervention. When the last company I worked for was acquired and my position eliminated it opened the doors for me to finally turn my hobby into a full-time business. Within a month of leaving that job, I met the owner of Expert VA Training ® ™ Kathy Goughenour, joined her program, and voila֨, Excel Your Business was officially launched.
I knew from the get-go I wanted to build my business around making others’ jobs easier so they could focus on the things that fueled them while I focused on the things that fueled me.
I’m kind of a geek you see, and really love helping others streamline their processes and understand their numbers by developing cool tools via Excel. This is part of where the name for my business came from.
The other reason that Excel Your Business was given its name is because I truly and deeply want to help business owners excel in all ways imaginable. My corporate background takes me across all kinds of industries: health care; hospitality; entertainment; insurance; travel; engineering and architecture. Within that 30 year span, I spent the last 20 providing executive support to C-level leadership. I understand how much there is to focus on at one time, how many balls there are to juggle. And I definitely get the value of reliable, professional, proactive, and knowledgeable support people to surround you during the grind.
And that’s what I strive to be through Excel Your Business. A reliable, professional, proactive, and knowledgeable addition to your team. Helping you kick butt and take names. Or numbers, rather.
When I’m away from the office – which is in my own home and comfy clothes by the way – I’m still playing a supporting role within my family. In fact, I’d like to make enough money to retire my hard-working husband from his construction job. I’d like us to be able to move out of the city and travel.
Until then, I fill up my spare time with books and movies, hunting, cooking, road trips, and my favorite people. I love quotes, clean spaces, and office supplies. I dislike the taste of coffee even though the smell is nice, and I’d rather jump out of a plane than ride a rollercoaster. Negative energy wears me out and lack of eye contact irritates me. Because I hate poor customer service and being lied to, I’ll always strive to provide both quality and truth in however I conduct myself.
When people get to know me, they are often surprised by my array of interests, skills, and talents. Some would say I don’t really fit in any box. Which is pretty perfect, isn’t it? I don’t want to fit inside a box. I don’t want to think inside one either. And that makes me pretty perfect for this business I’ve created. Because I don’t think you, your numbers, or your challenges, fit into a box either.
